Writing was never something that arrived overnight for me. It developed over time, shaped by a fascination with storytelling, atmosphere, and the darker edges of imagination. As an author, I found my natural place in supernatural horror, drawn to the tension between the ordinary and the unexplained, where something familiar slowly becomes unsettling.

Working in partnership with Martin D Smith, that interest evolved into a more structured and collaborative process. Together, we create stories grounded in reality, where the supernatural element builds gradually rather than overwhelming the reader. Our focus has always been on strong narrative, believable characters, and a sense that something is not quite right. When horror is done well, it is not just about fear, it is about curiosity, unease, and the slow realisation that something beneath the surface has shifted.

Our partnership works because it combines different strengths. Ideas are refined, challenged, and strengthened, allowing each story to develop more fully than it would alone. It brings a balance between creativity and structure, which is essential in building tension and maintaining momentum.

Alongside this darker writing, there has also been a different creative influence. My wife encouraged exploring a lighter direction through supernatural romantic comedy. While it may seem a contrast to horror, both genres rely on strong characters and emotional engagement. Where horror builds tension, romantic comedy builds connection. Bringing the supernatural into both allows for a unique blend of storytelling that moves between humour, emotion, and the unexpected.

However, writing the book is only part of the journey.

The biggest challenge has been what comes next, visibility, promotion, and reaching readers. Across the UK, there is a noticeable lack of clear, centralised support for authors. Instead, everything feels fragmented.

Authors are promoting themselves in one place, readers are searching somewhere else, venues are looking for event ideas through another route, and book-related businesses are trying to reach their audience in completely separate spaces. The result is a disconnected situation. Everyone is active, but not necessarily connected.

This fragmentation makes it far harder than it should be for authors to be seen, and for readers to discover new voices.

That led to a simple idea. Why not bring everything together?

From that idea, UK Author Promotion was created. A central hub where authors can showcase their work, readers can discover new books, venues can connect with writers, and trusted businesses can reach the right audience. More than that, it is designed to be a community, not just a platform.

At its core, this is about visibility, connection, and opportunity. Helping authors be seen, helping readers discover, and bringing the UK literary world together in a way that finally makes sense.
