Meet Mara Mansour
I am a mother of four and a teacher of English, which means I have spent most of my life in the company of stories, my children's, my students', and the ones people carry quietly without ever quite finding the words for.
It's the stories that resist words that interest me most.
My writing explores the spaces between what we feel and what we say: the vulnerability of loving someone who might hurt you, the slow and uneven work of healing, and the love that finds you in the places you least expected to be found. I don't write so much about the big dramatic moments as what happens in the silences around them, because, in my experience, that's where the real stories live.
Most recently, my debut novel, After The Lake, was awarded Book of the Year 2026 in the Women's Fiction category by the Independent Author Awards. It was also shortlisted for the Hawthorn Prize for Literature 2026, recognition that has been both humbling and deeply encouraging as I continue my writing journey. Â
